Post date: Dec 21, 2016 4:07:53 AM

Coors and Prospect Park and Rec District officially closed on Applewood Golf Course today!

From the GOCO press release (also attached below). Thank you to all of the residents and partners who helped us preserve this invaluable piece of land.

"Today Prospect Recreation and Park District (PRPD), in partnership with The Trust for Public Land, acquired the Applewood Golf Course in Golden, Colo. for $13.5 million from Molson Coors Brewing Company. The purchase is the result of more than a year and a half of planning and fundraising efforts by multiple partners to protect the unique tract of open space from residential development."

Edit: Additional comments from Brian Hansen, APOA President:

Thank you everyone for all of your support! The APOA board had a LOT of help working on this. Hundreds (thousands) of you showed up at community meetings to make your concerns know, volunteers worked the phones and walked door-to-door for the ballot campaign, many of you gave generously to fund our legal efforts to stop the rezoning (which ultimately led to our success), and we had great partners in the Applewood Valley Association, Daniels-Welchester, and Fairmount HOAs. Not to mention a dedicated board and leadership team at Prospect Rec and Park District and the Prospect Foundation, and the devoted members of the AGC mens and womens clubs, including and especially Kathy Lower. We got a boost from our elected officials - Congressman Perlmutter famously stood up for us in the big community meeting, as did State Rep Jessie Danielson; and Jeffco Commissioner Casey Tighe was incredibly supportive and carried our cause when it came time to ask for Jeffco Open Space funding. And GOCO and Trust for Public Land came through big with additional funding and the legal team to negotiate and finalize the purchase. It was one of those efforts where everyone came out of the woodwork to lend a hand, which was amazing! Happy holidays everyone!
